Most angiograms are done through the wrist instead of from the leg, thus reducing the risk of bleeding and improving patient recovery. New stent technology involving bioresorbable stents are now available. These stents are slowly resorbed and leave no permanent implant in the body. Complex procedures involving atherectomy to reduce the amount of calcium in the blood vessels using newer devices is also available. In really sick patients, devices like Impella, that support the heart, are also used.
